(BPRW) CBCF Announces the In-Person Return of the 51st Annual Legislative Conference

Amazon to sponsor the nation’s leading policy conference that will feature in-person and select virtual programming

(Black PR Wire) Washington, D.C. – The Congressional Black Caucus Foundation (CBCF) is excited to announce the in-person return of the 51st Annual Legislative Conference (ALC), after two years of virtual programming. Sponsored by Amazon, ALC 2022 will take place from September 28 to October 2 at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center in Washington, D.C., and is anticipated to attract more than 10,000 attendees from across the country. Congresswoman Val Demings of Florida and Congressman Steven Horsford of Nevada will serve as honorary co-chairs and have established the ALC 2022 theme as “Advancing Our Purpose. Elevating Our Power.”

“The return of the in-person Annual Legislative Conference could not have come at a better time,” said CBCF President and CEO Nicole Austin-Hillery. “With pivotal primary elections currently taking place, this is a year of action and urgency for the CBCF, establishing the foundation for our call to action through the ALC as we look towards November. Advancing our purpose doesn’t just involve policymakers but requires everyone to take part to elevate our power. We invite everyone to join us in Washington, D.C. for an empowering five days of forward-thinking programming.”

As the nation’s leading public policy conference, this year’s ALC will offer over 100 in-person issue forums and established brain trusts, with an option to participate in select virtual programming for free. ALC 2022 also welcomes the return of its signature events – the National Town Hall, A Day of Healing (formerly the Prayer Breakfast), the Gospel Extravaganza, the Black Party, and the Phoenix Awards Dinner – which is designed to empower and celebrate Black leaders.

“The Annual Legislative Conference serves as an opportunity for CBC members to connect with current and future leaders of our nation,” said CBCF Board Chair Representative Terri Sewell. “Through the unique perspectives of thought leaders, community organizers, activists, and others, we will generate the momentum necessary to propel the Black community to new heights.”

Lawmakers, celebrities, concerned citizens, and other individuals from across the country attend the ALC to share perspectives on issues that impact the global Black community including education, economic development, public health, voting rights, civic engagement, as well as social and environmental justice.

“Through the ALC, CBCF has afforded activists and community leaders the opportunity to network and collaborate with our nation’s elected leaders to forge pathways that seek to resolve racial disparities,” said CBC Chairwoman U.S. Representative Joyce Beatty. “For decades, the ALC has served as the cornerstone for participants, fostered critical discourse, educated the public, and has served as a launching pad for mobilizing communities. This mission continues, as we reconvene rejuvenated and ready to advance the needs of the global Black community.”

Individuals interested in attending ALC 2022 may visit the CBCF website to register. All members of the media are invited to request credentials by registering here.

COVID-19 protocols will be in place for those planning to attend in-person. For the safety of all attendees, the CBCF requires all attendees to be fully vaccinated and have received at least one booster shot prior to attending. Participants are strongly encouraged to protect the community by wearing a mask at all indoor activities. See the Health and Safety page for details.
